Internship Testimonials

Thank you to all the interns that have been part of the Pelagios Team! Some of them returned to develop their Master’s or PhD research with us, and others continued their journey elsewhere. We are very happy to contribute to the life and career experiences of new generations of scientists!

My experience in Pelagios was amazing! I had the opportunity to meet amazing friends with the same interests, sharks. I want to thank Darren above all. He was an amazing teacher, with a huge patience and always a smile in his face. He created a really good environment where we felt so comfortable. I have learned a lot in there two weeks and I'm more in love with the ocean.

If you like sharks, Baja is the right place to be. Pelagios Kakunjá has many different projects going on at the same time and the coordinator makes sure you get your hands in most of them. Just a week has passed since I got here and I've already learned so much, including working with shark measurements, blood and tissue samples, shark identification, sexing, shark behavior, benthic BRUVS, data entry and much more! Besides that, the team is exceptional, they make you feel at home. I will be forever grateful with Pelagios for all the great experiences.

Pelagios gave me for the first time the opportunity to get into the world of shark research. This helped me to get into my master degree program and continue my career in marine and shark conservation.

My time at Pelagios has brought me closer to observing, understanding and contextualizing my research to conserve what I love - the entire underwater world, especially sharks. The family environment in the office and our shared fascination for elasmobranchs led to respectful relationships and mutual support - you just made me feel at home.

During my time as an intern I fell in love with Cabo Pulmo National Park. I gained hands on experience during tagging trips whilst with Pelagios. This resulting in me returning the following year to complete my PhD research with Blacktip sharks that aggregate within the park during the winter season.

I really enjoyed my experience at Pelagios and all of the amazing people I met! I felt like the internship really opened a lot of doors for me and also allowed me to unlock my passion for marine biology even more that I thought! I would highly recommend this program and would say my career aspirations in marine biology were strengthened through this experience!

Working with Pelagios Kakunja in La Paz for my Master's dissertation was an excellent opportunity. They shared their extensive knowledge of the region, along with support with fieldwork and data analysis which led to a very successful project. I really enjoyed being part of the team and hope I can visit again.
