Dr. Blanca González
Genetics Coordinator
Blanca Idalia was born in Monterrey, in the state of Nuevo Leon. She´s always been interested in nature, photography and conservation. Since her bachelor´s degree at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, she studied the reproductive aspects of the Hawksbill turtle at the nesting coasts in the Peninsula of Yucatan. After this, she continued to work with the same focusing on the analysis of satellite tracking and applied remote sensing techniques as part of her master's thesis at CINVESTAV Mérida. Looking for the answers to the questions that came from her investigation, she used genetic analysis in order to learn more about the behavior patterns of the species as part of her PhD in Marine Sciences at the same institution. In 2018, she joined Pelagios Kakunjá's team as the first postdoctoral researcher, with an interest in applying her genetics experience in sharks and other highly migratory species, as a means to contribute to conservation through the creation of scientific information. She is currently the genetics coordinator of Pelagios Kakunjá.
