Jane Vinesky

PhD Student

Native to Ohio, Jane received her bachelor’s degree in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences from Oregon State University. Her research background includes shark science and environmental chemistry. As an undergraduate Gilman Scholar, she led the first study using fish scales as bioindicators of pollution in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Jane is currently earning her MSc at CICIMAR-IPN as a Fulbright Scholar under the direction of Dr. Mauricio Hoyos and Dr. Felipe Galvan Magaña with the support of Pelagios Kakunjá. Her thesis, entitled “Dinámica poblacional y ecología espacial de mantas caribes (Mobula c.f. birostris) dentro de la Reserva de la Biosfera del Caribe Mexicano”, aims to contribute to baseline research for a putative new species of oceanic manta in the Mexican Caribbean.
