Mariana Arguero
Master Student
Mariana is an engineer, who was born with the question "how does this work?" in her head. She had always focused this questioning on machines until diving for the first time in 2019 and seeing her first shark. Besides falling in love with the ocean, these animals filled her head with curiosity and admiration. During a 5-month trip she decided to turn her life around and dedicate herself to marine research and conservation. Since then, she has participated in different conservation projects in Malaysia, the Canary Islands and Mexico, and she co-created a marine education project. Mariana now integrates her engineering knowledge into shark research and is about to start her master's degree at CICIMAR-IPN carrying out her research at Pelagios Kakunjá, with the objective of studying shark swimming dynamics with accelerometers.
