Matteo Bertoni

Alumni

Matteo is from Milan, Italy, and he has always been interested in marine biology and its hidden wonders. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Milano - Bicocca and attended the international master course in Marine Sciences at the same university. There he discovered his interest in big marine vertebrates, in particular sharks. Therefore, in March 2021 he attended a 3 month internship in Costa Rica focusing on monitoring the presence and distribution of white tip reef sharks and on marine conservation. After that he decided to spend 2 months (dec 2021-jan 2022) in Baja California Sur, doing his master thesis project with Pelagios Kakunjá on the seasonality and distribution of several species of pelagic sharks. Here he also helped the organization in monitoring whale sharks and the nurseries of baby sharpnose sharks. From these experiences Matteo confirmed 100% his profound and deep interest in sharks, particularly on ethology, behavioral ecology and distribution of this mesmerizing marine species. In July 2022 he graduated from his master’s course in Marine Sciences with the highest mark, 110/110 with honours.
